but these additional 10 are smoking rooms. That's all they have left.
So, if you haven't made your reservations yet... Call 1-800-537-3612
Our group number is now 2167. (They had a software change.)
Also, if you have reserved a room that you will not be using,
please call them and cancel it as soon as you can.
A number of folks are planning to come a day or two early
and/or are staying a day or two extra.
After you read this letter, you might decide to add on a day or two yourself...

Here are some things that are going to happen:

1) AN AFTERNOON AT CHURCHILL DOWNS on Friday, the 11th.
Patti (Grenough) Hampton is organizing this.
She has put a hold on 7 tables (8 per table) in the Sky Terrace
(called Millionaire's Row on Derby Day) from 3 to 7pm.
Seats cost $8.00 each, and that covers admission, reserved seat and a program.
The buffet dinner would be an additional $16.00 per person.
Contact Patti by April 20 at 'pattih@gateway.net' or at 1-561-234-2301.

2) BREAKFAST AT THE MELROSE INN (where we first met in 1969).
A 1960's-style trolley with cushioned seats and air-conditioning will pick us up
at the Ramada at 9:00 am Saturday and tootle us to the Melrose Inn
for a delicious Melrose breakfast. Doesn't that sound like a winner?
The trolley holds 30 people and will cost $12.00 per person.
The first 30 people who send checks for $12.00 will get a seat on the trolley.
Mail them to Vince Grenough, 3 Woodland Rd., Jeffersonville IN 47130
The breakfast costs extra, depending on what you order for yourself.
We tried to line up a buffet, but the cooks are 'stuck in their ways' says the manager.
The Melrose can only handle 30 at a seating.
If more than 30 people get in on this, we will try to work out something,
maybe a 2nd seating.

3) THE BIG REUNION BANQUET. It will be a really nice luncheon buffet
on Saturday at the Ramada. We have exclusive use of the Banquet Hall from
12:00 to 3:00 pm so we can have our BIG SHOW after the meal.
(More on the BIG SHOW later.)
The 'Designer Deluxe Buffet' will cost around $15.00 per person
and includes tip and use of the banquet hall for 3 hours.
That's a little high for some, but we decided it was our best option.
Children under 5 are free. Children under 13 are 1/2 price.
We're working hard on a senior discount.
Please let me (Vince) know by April 20 how many places you will want at the tables.
Don't send money yet. Laurel Lichtenberger says she will organize
a group of Longhills who will sing Grace before the meal for us.
Note: We have not planned an organized dinner for Saturday.
The Ramada has an excellent dining room,
and there are two great restaurants on the riverfront just
50 yards from the Ramada (Kingfish and Buckhead Mountain Grill).

4) AN EVENING ON THE BEAUTIFUL OHIO RIVER. Fred Nett is working
on some neat plans for after the BIG SHOW on Saturday that may include
a hike to the nearby world-famous fossil beds,
a visit to the Interpretive Center, a tour of the Locks of the Ohio,
and a sunset or moonlit riverboat Cruise on the Belle of Louisville,
bellex.jpg (2248 bytes)

5) CHURCH ON SUNDAY MORNING. We have not finalized plans
about what time or where yet.

Here are some other items of interest:

1) THE REUNION WEB PAGE. Our son, Dan, is creating
the Reunion Web Page as things come in to him.
It's at: http://www.pearl-jam.com/reunion. Check it out.
If you are not on-line, you can go to your library and use their computer.
The staff will generally be happy to assist you.
One of the things you will see is bunches of pictures on the Pictures Page.
NOW it's time to send YOUR pictures to Dan so he can add them to the Web Page!
We hope to have current pictures of every living member
of the Grenough clan on the Web Page by April 1.
And if you have a couple of historic photos of family, send them too.
Be sure to give Dan the names of the people on the photo,
as well as the date - approximate, at least.
How do you get the photos to Dan? Well, there are a couple of ways:
a) If you have a scanner, just scan the photos and
e-mail them to Dan at dan@pearl-jam.com
b) Mail copies of them to Dan Grenough at
554 Cedargate Ct., Michigan City IN 46360
Jerry Grenough found that you can take your pictures (not the negatives) to your
local Copy Shop and they will make excellent copies for a very reasonable charge.
Also, check out Dory's Tid-bits on the Web Page.
You will see all kinds of interesting and spicy things about our ancestors.
Dan says if you send him tid-bits of your own he will add them to the Page.
Folks, this Web Page is really A JEWEL - and it's just getting started!
Check it every week or so for updates.

2) REUNION T-SHIRTS. Jerry Grenough is overseeing
the design and ordering of the Reunion T-shirts.
He is planning to have them imprinted with a picture of
the Original Five that was taken in the 30's -
we think at the funeral of Louis B., their dad who died March 16, 1935.
The shirts will also be imprinted with the date, location,
and name of the reunion (yet-to-be-determined; see item #4 below).
He says the shirts will cost $6.00 each!!!
Can you believe only 6 bucks? And they are 100% cotton!
By April 20, tell him how many and what size(s) you want.
Contact Jerry at 1-561-747-4188, or write to him at
16670 Traders Crossing No., #109, Jupiter FL 33477

3) REUNION BADGES. Laurel Lichtenberger came up with the idea
of having a limited edition of reunion badges made up.
They will each have space for the attendee's name.
The 'young folks' say they can't remember who all these old people are.
Well kids, we want to know who y'all are too!

4) NAME THE REUNION CONTEST. Already, a bunch of people
have submitted their suggestions for a name for our reunion.
See the Web Page (click here).
We will accept more suggestions until April 1st.
After that date, we will decide on a fair way to pick one -
or maybe a combination - as the OFFICIAL NAME for the reunion.
This is YOUR CHANCE TO GO DOWN IN HISTORY (or UP, whichever)!

5) THE BIG SHOW AFTER THE BANQUET. An internationally known
performer has been asked to emcee the BIG SHOW.
We are holding our breath for her favorable response.
At the BIG SHOW, we want families to come up with
creative ways on-stage to let the rest of us know who they are,
and we'll allow a FEW minutes for them to do something silly or artistic, or both.
(I heard that Don Grenough wants to have one and a half hours to do their skit.
Do y'all think we should give it to him?)
BE SURE TO BRING YOUR CAMERAS AND VIDEOCAMS.
This will be the time for the Big Group Photos and all kinds of other shots.
Does anyone with a good camera and know-how
want to volunteer to manage the Official Reunion Picture?

6) THE G-R-E-N-O-U-G-H SONG. Regis O'Connor has agreed (Haven't you, Regis?)
to lead us in a few verses of the world-famous song at the BIG SHOW.
He may even accept one new verse from each of the Original Five's families.
Rich Grenough agreed to work one up for Edgar's family. (Didn't you, Rich?)

7) OFFICIAL PROCLAMATION. The Mayor of Jeffersonville, Tom Galligan,
will declare the week of June 7-13 to be Great Grenough Reunion Week and
he plans to come to the Reunion Banquet to present the Proclamation to us personally.
Here's a sneak preview, the first draft of the Proclamation:

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS the first known ancestor of the Grenough family to come to the North
American continent was Jacques Grignon, who arrived in Quebec, Canada from
France by 1692; later married Marie Therese Richer who bore 14 children, the
4th being Jean Baptiste, our forefather; and our surname having been changed
to Grenough in the 1866 census, and

WHEREAS some of the descendants of Jean Baptiste, specifically the families of
the 5 children (Angela, Edgar, Elise, Gerald and Margaret) of Louis
Bartholomew Grenough, who is of the 7th generation of Jacques' offspring, and
of his wife Louise Isabell Back gathered at the Melrose Inn near Louisville,
Kentucky for their first formal reunion, and have met for reunions
periodically since then, inviting other descendants of the Grignon/Grenough
family tree to attend, and

WHEREAS the direct descendants have brought many new and cherished members
(inlaws and outlaws, as we say) into the Grenough family by marriage, by
adoption or by other loving relationships, and these have added even more
talent, beauty, wit and wisdom, energy, joy, love and compassion to the family tree, and

WHEREAS the Grenough families fondly remember and celebrate the memory of
their loved ones who have died - some much too young - and believe that these
loved ones continue to be with us, and

WHEREAS, with deep gratitude to God, the Grenough families will gather again,
for the 8th time, in mid-June of 1999, at the Ramada Riverside Inn in
Jeffersonville, Indiana;

BE IT RESOLVED that the week of June 7-13 of 1999 is hereby officially designated
as THE GREAT GRENOUGH REUNION WEEK, and that all the courtesies and
amenities of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana will be graciously extended
to all who attend the aforementioned reunion.

AIN'T THAT SOMETHIN'?

8) THE MEMORIES-AND-CHAT ROOM. A large room near
the lobby of the Ramada will be set aside as a space for us to gather and
to display our family pictures, videos, documents, etc. and to share stories.
We'll warn the hotel staff to be ready for lots of laughter and noise in that area.
We're asking Rose (Grenough) Nett and Dory Lichtenberger to oversee the Memories Room.

9) POST-REUNION CD-ROM OR FLOPPY DISCS. I think this was Laurie
Lichtenberger's idea too. She was on a roll when John and Vince spent a few
days in the Cocoa Beach area recently. Dan has agreed to work with her.
The plan is to put EVERYTHING about the reunion, including the whole Web Page,
on compact or floppy discs and then to make them available to folks at a
very reasonable cost. Dan says under 5 bucks. Can you believe that?

10) THE SOUTHERN INDIANA AND LOUISVILLE AREA.
This is a GREAT PLACE to spend a week or two.
Scenery, theatres, great restaurants, wonderful Olmstead-designed public parks,
museums for adults and kids, Atlantis water park (Hey, Chris Lyle!) is less than a mile away,
hiking, Six Flags over Kentucky, the Glory of Rome (largest riverboat casino in the world,
run by Caesars, is a half-hour away from our motel, and is ready to take your money every day).
One of the largest Arabian Horse shows in the world, the Equitana,
will be at Freedom Hall in Louisville June 10-12.
There's more, lots more.

 ..............................................

We're counting on you on-line folks to circulate all of this info to your loved ones quickly.
Please make special note of the target date (April 20) for getting things done.
Thanks to all the folks who are helping out with their ideas and involvement.
We welcome any questions or suggestions.

With much love...Vince and Sue Grenough, your reunion co-hosts.
